Reviews

You’ll never hear another performance like it.
Philharmonia/Lucerne Festival, Beethoven

The magnificent performance turned out to be even more riveting and powerful than the superb reading Rostropovich gave us last month. Flor appeared to connect with the Chicago Symphony musicians in a way that few conductors do, and the musicians responded by playing with remarkable fury and commitment.
Chicago Symphony/Ravina Festival, Shostakovich 10

A brilliant performance of Shostakovich’s 15th and final symphony…masterful.
Dallas Symphony/Shostakovich 15

The finest recorded Walpurgisnacht bar none.
Mendelssohn Walpurgisnacht/BMG (Classic CD)

Flor, who has gained a reputation for his interpretations of the German Romantic repertoire, judges almost perfectly the tone, atmosphere and spirit of the work.
Mendelssohn Walpurgisnacht/BMG (Fonoforum)

Flor’s Schubert was, in the best sense, timeless. It was both majestic and flowing, achieved a nice balance between strings and winds in the slow movement, and was agile and articulate in the finale. The orchestra played beautifully for him.
Mostly Mozart Festival, Schubert 1

Flor is a magnificent conductor. He is constantly alert to the refinement of the phrasing and to the great arcs of harmony underlying the melodies. He and the Orchestre National de France gave us a beautiful performance of Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration, followed by a serene and moving account of the Overture and Good Friday music from Parsifal.
Orchestre National de France, Strauss & Wagner

He conducts these colourful, delicately orchestrated symphonies, with their varying timbres, to absolute perfection… This disc, which outshines the competition (in the shape of Sawallisch, as well of course that of Norrington and Marriner), is a "must" for anyone who loves the German Romantics.
Philharmonia, Weber Overtures/BMG (Repertoire)

Sensational…if the disc is not on the shelf, you should order it. It sounds as if it were sung in one long breath, and is dynamic, dramatic and flexible.
Philharmonia, Weber Overtures/BMG (Die Zeit)

A new Bruckner conductor for Vienna… Flor’s approach to Bruckner’s last symphony rang absolutely true. The audience was immediately gripped and moved by this performance.
Vienna Symphony, Bruckner 9

Flor’s shaping of the work was large in conception but precise in the details, brisk and exciting in the climaxes, very clear and transparent in the layers of sound. The Gürzenich’s playing was inspired, alert, relaxed.
Gürzenich Orchestra (Cologne Opera), Bruckner 1

It left a deep and lasting impression with the public…Flor gave a superb rendering of his dramatic conception and conducted with great clarity and presence… The CD recording linked to these live performances is bound to be an extraordinary treat and is to be recommended even before its release.!
Bamberg Symphony, Bruch: Moses
