Short Biography

Polish pianist Ewa Kupiec has become known as one of the fastest rising artists of our time.
Her virtuosity and instinctive individuality of playing were described by Lutoslawski as a "true revelation".

Since winning the ARD competition in Munich in 1992, Kupiec has enjoyed an extremely busy recital and chamber schedule offering a diverse repertoire partnering a number of celebrated artists. Having toured extensively in Eastern Europe she has recently been making considerable impact in Western Europe playing at several major international festivals as well as in recital in many of Europe’s major cities.

Orchestral engagements have included appearances at the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Helsinki Radio Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Saarlaendischer Rundfunk and BBC Concert Orchestra (London).

Distinguished conductors featured in Kupiec’s career to date include: Blomstedt, Alsop, Janowski, Judd, Andras Ligeti, Lintu, Oramo, Östman, Skrowaczewski, Varga, Wit and Hugh Wolff.

Recent highlights include a German festival tour with the BBC Philharmonic, performances with Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra, Gurzenich Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, as well as solo recitals across Germany, including at the Berlin Philharmonie, and in Tokyo, where Kupiec made her Japanese debut. Her successful US debut in 2002 with Milwaukee Symphony will be followed by performances with St Louis Symphony in 2004.

Forthcoming highlights include engagements with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Ingo Metzmacher, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Netherlands Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonia de Galicia, and recital appearances in the UK, Paris and in festivals across France, Switzerland and Germany.

Kupiec has made numerous recordings for Polish Radio, BBC Radio, Austrian Radio and NDR Hamburg, as well as several award winning CDs for Koch International and Claves, including a disc of works for flute & piano by Bartok, Martinu and Schulhof and a collection of solo piano works by Bacewicz.

Ewa Kupiec was born in Duszniki, educated first in Katowice, then at the Chopin Conservatory in Warsaw and later at the Royal Academy of Music, London. She currently lives in Munich.
