Gilbert Varga is to continue as Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Euskadi, following the remarkable strides the Orchestra has taken in the last two years and its arrival at San Sebastian’s superb new hall. Varga, who also has a busy international career on both sides of the Atlantic, made hugely successful guest conducting appearances last season with the Orchestre de Paris and the Symphonie Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in Munich. Known as a versatile conductor who programmes an eclectic repertoire and with a clarity of vision and fluid technique, Varga invariably finds himself re-invited wherever he goes. Return visits to the U.S. and Japan are planned as well as major appearances in Berlin and Vienna.
